Menu Plan Monday

Happy Monday and yes I'm getting back to it with meal planning and keeping the blog up to date this week. I'm on it. ;) So today is Menu Plan Monday! This week I'm holding steady from last week which is ok by me. I'd like a loss but no gain is almost as good as one and after not being the best with keeping to my points this week I'm happy as can be. The Husband lost 2 1/2 lbs so yay for him. :) I have my meals figured out - 7 of them - but I have no idea what is going where and whatnot. I'll probably end up with left over meals, but at least I have them ready for when I need them. That's the plan this week. :) Here we go with the meals...

1. - Pork Chops w/ Sweet Potatoes and Pears (7 Pts/serving)

2. - Veggie Burgers (4 Pts/serving w/ roll), fries (3 Pts/serving), green beans (0 Pts/serving)

3. - Spaghetti Amatriciana (6 Pts/serving)

4. - Baked French Toast (6 Pts/serving), Turkey Bacon (1 Pts/serving)

5. - Freschetta Brick Oven 5 Cheese Pizza (7 Pts/serving)

6. - Saucy Parmesan Chicken (4 Pts/serving), Butter Noodles (6 Pts/serving), Corn (1 Pts/half cup)

7. - Hot Dogs (2 Pts/serving w/ roll), Shells and Cheese (8 Pts/serving), lima beans (1 Pts/half cup)

So excited!

So it's pretty much a done deal so I can finally express my excitement for all to know...

Friends of ours are moving in right down the road from us! We can walk to each other's house...only have to cross one road...and it's only 0.3 miles door to door! How stinkin' awesome is that?! All the family can't wait. They have two daughters - one only a month older than K-Girl and another that is soon to be 2. So friends for us and friends for the kids. It doesn't get much better than that. We had a celebratory wing night this evening and had so much fun. I cannot express how excited we are to have friends that will be living so close. I just needed to share that. Yay!

Note to self - must remind them to watch for squirrels when they move in ;)

Losing my mind

It dawned on my last night as I was laying in bed that I totally forgot to do Works For Me Wednesday this week...and for that matter I totally forgot Menu Plan Monday as well. I've just not been with it. I'm blaming it on lack of sleep. I got more last night than I have been getting so maybe I'll start getting my act together. Look to next week for everything to get back in order around here.

Since I did forget Menu Plan Monday I didn't give my weight watchers update this week. If it hadn't been such a good week I'd say oh well, but I feel the need to boast a bit. After last week's very disappointing gain I've lost all that I gained plus some. I'm down 6.4lbs this week for a total of 8.8 so far. Go me! I don't have a very optimistic outlook for this week though. We decided to get pizza Monday and I didn't do too bad with it, but now Friday we're getting wings with friends so that's another naughty day. Oh and tonight we have pictures and trick or treating at the mall so we'll be grabbing something there to eat which I'm sure won't be GREAT. So I'm hoping I just don't gain, but I'm definitely not optimistic about another great week like last.

BRAKES!!!

There is something that this neighborhood has more of that no other place I have lived before has had. No it's not the smiling faces of the people next door - we live in one of those keep to yourself neighborhoods. Nope it's not the dogs although there seems to be a ton of dogs around here. It's not the noisy teenagers driving their cars much too fast - living across from a bowling alley totally ups the ante on that one. It's squirrels! These darn little rodents make drives to and from this house challenging to say the least. I'm not one for hitting animals.

The other day I stopped for a squirrel and K-Girl asks me "What are you doing, Momma?" to which I replied that there was a squirrel and I didn't want to hit it so I stopped. Do you know what she told me? She said "just smoosh it Momma!" What what WHAT??? Yes, my daughter had just told me to smoosh the squirrel. Oy!

So every morning (because mornings are the hardest) I drive with my eyes set hard on the sides of the road waiting for the next one to play chicken with me. So far I have not hit one, but they've been throwing me a curve ball the last few times. I get down just about out of the development and a chipmunk comes dashing in front of my car. I promptly hit the breaks giving us all whiplash, but doing my best to avoid smooshing it. Chipmunks are harder than squirrels. They are smaller and they dart back and forth randomly. This morning I was on my way home and thinking "watch for chipmunks watch for chipmunks" and BOOM! there he goes RIGHT.IN.FRONT of my car. It was so close. I swear his little buddies are hiding in the hedges along the other side of the road chanting his name like some frat boys cheering on their chugging buddy because they seem to just live for the thrill of running in front of my car and watching me see how fast I can get the car stopped.

Well you know what, squirrels and chippies? You all better watch yourselves before I do end up smooshing one of you by accident! And I WILL feel bad and I WILL probably cry.

Sleep...is...good

How come then is it so hard to get here lately? I'm sooooo tired. The little man's been getting me up so much lately. The other night he had me up 4 or 5 times. Three is his new norm though. Three times up from 11 - 7:00 is just cruel. It gives you just enough time to get into that really good sleep and then makes you try to function again.

Last night he pulled a twist. He let me sleep from 10:30 until about 5:00 but then wouldn't go back to sleep. I've decided that this is equally as bad for me. I do not function when I am asked to start my day so long before the sun. I got up for a feed and then crawled back in bed at 5:30 only to get back up a few minutes later to surrender myself to starting the day.

What makes this even more fun is that it's Monday - preschool. So for the last hour as I'm getting K-Girl fed and dressed and handling her temper which was off to a brilliant start this morning I also had to contend with E-Man screaming. He was determined to tell the entire neighborhood that he was tired and ready now for his nap.

Sorry buddy.

On the positive side he passed out on the way home from dropping K-Girl off and then was changed, fed, and laid to nap as soon as we came in the house. This was followed by me hurrying to throw in the diaper laundry and then crawling into bed - tossing and turning for about 20 minutes and then getting a good 40ish minutes of sleep. But oh how I wanted to hit the snooze when my alarm went off alerting me it was time to grab E-Man and rush out of the house for preschool pick up. I was the last one in line, but made it before the door opened for dismissal to begin. So, go me.

And for the record...this was the first time I've spent preschool time napping...but boy it felt good.

Go productivity!

Here lately I've been feeling quite productive...at times like I have a caffeine drip. It's been great. I have been consistently getting all my dailies done and I've even got some of the heavy lifting as well. My upstairs bathroom got scrubbed and I'm staying on top of vacuuming. I've vacuumed the downstairs 3 times this week and the upstairs once. There's nothing better than at the end of the day feeling like you've actually accomplished something...well at least until the realization that you are going to wake up tomorrow and have to do it all over again. But hey it's still a good feeling.

I love...

when either of my kids get really tired and pass out on me. It is more rare with K-Girl, but unless he's eating E-Man doesn't pass out on me too much. Here I sit typing away as my son sleeps soundly on my chest, head resting on my cheek. I wouldn't rather be anywhere else right now.

Works For Me Wednesday - Method!

For this week's Works for Me Wednesday I wanted to share with you what I think is hands down the BEST bathroom cleaner. I've mentioned this in passing before but I think I need to highlight it.

Method's tub + tile spray!

Honestly I'm a HUGE fan of all things Method, but to me their tub + tile spray stands out. It's an awesome cleaner. It's worked better than all those harsh yucky cleaners that you think you just shaved a year off your life by breathing in all those super harsh fumes that I've tried. You barely have to scrub and you just see the grime go bye bye. Awesome awesome stuff.

I have been becoming more natural in my cleaning and I have switched to vinegar and water for my floors and some all purpose cleaning type of things, but there are still some areas that I like a specialized cleaner and that's where Method comes in. They are friendly products - friendly to us and friendly to the environment. If you'd like to read more check out Method's Humanifesto.

So if you are looking for a rockin' bathroom cleaner check out Method's Tub + Tile Spray! You'll thank me later. (Get Method products at Target or on their website!)

Oh and if you love Method as much as I do stop by their site and sign up to become a method advocate! Spread the word and help others fight dirty (and you might even score some awesome coupons, freebies, and testers. I did! :)

hehe I love this silly picture! ;)

Method works for me!

No Menu Monday

Well with the work on the house that we did this past weekend we really fell of the wagon with Weight Watchers. It was hard having the whole house an absolute wreck and having the kitchen filled with furniture and whatnot so we ate out quite a bit and it showed this morning on the scale. The Husband still lost a half pound so not great but not a gain. I on the other hand gained back 4.4lbs. Yuck. Oh well back to it this week. But since we ate out a bit I have most of my meals left over from last week and The Husband won't be home for dinner two times this week so I'm not bothering with trying to figure out a meal plan. It will basically be the same as last and most definitely Weight Watchers FRIENDLY this week. :) I'll pick up next week on planning.

E-Man started cereal

At the last doctors appointment we were told that we should start E-Man on cereal sometime between 4 and 6 months. She told us to watch for the growth spurt and then introduce it then. He's been sleeping REALLY badly for the last week or two and waking to eat a LOT so we figured this was it. So Friday we went ahead and started rice cereal. OH.MY.GOSH! He LOVES it. He's hilarious to watch as he attacks the spoon when it comes near him. He's finished the bowl off all three times I've given it to him. He's definitely all about the food. The Husband took a few pictures the first time so I'm going to share some. Don't mind the lighting. The light in the dining room messes with it.

I'm excited that he loves it so much. K-Girl really didn't care much at all for cereal so we mixed it with fruit to get her to eat it. If E-Man's happy with just plain cereal I might actually be able to introduce veggies first like you're supposed to. Ooooh and maybe he'll end up liking them too! Could you just imagine? haha

Come out come out where ever you are...

Yes I'm still here. It's been a crazy one though.

Thursday and Friday The Husband had off of work. We had planned on remodeling the family room (the one where all the toys are and that we spend all of our time). Well what started out as an easy enough idea in our heads turned out to be a lot bigger of a job.

We have been going back and forth for a long time on what to do with our floors here on the lower level. We finally decided that we were going to pull up the carpet and just leave them as is (there's hardwood under the carpet). So The Husband started pulling it up only to find stain after stain after stain on the wood. It was BAD. We had fully expected maybe to have a couple minor marks but we were bringing in our nice large rug anyway so we figured it wouldn't be an issue. However these spots were more than just spots...extreme water mess at the glass doors and at least three huge disgusting black marks that I don't believe refinishing would even help. So we made the call to do laminate. It's cheaper than replacing the whole place with new hardwood, would stand up to pets and kids, and The Husband would have no problem installing it. So after the carpet was all out of here we set off to find some. We had great success at Carpet Mart. They were even still on sale. The lady was walking around raising the prices after their sale but we beat her to it and got the lower price. Nice to know if we had been maybe 30 minutes later we would have had to spend a lot more.

So we had the floor. The next idea was that we should flip our living room and family room around. We almost never used our living room and bought brand new furniture essentially for the animals. And we always had toys around us when we were relaxing after the kids had gone to bed. When we had company over there was limited space because of toys, etc etc etc. So The Husband got the floor laid and then the fun was switching out the rooms. It was one of those times that you wonder why on Earth you wanted the big furniture. *L* It's nice other than when you're picking it up and moving it. Yikes!

Four days later and the rooms are getting back to order. The family room has a long way to go yet on the remodel but the floor is in and the new furniture is down here and set up. Next on the list is finishing up the floor in the door ways and then putting new molding on, pulling off wallpaper, painting, and then finding new art for the walls. I'm excited. It's off to a great start. The new living room is all set up with toys and the TV works up there for videos. There isn't much else to do up there other than taking some things to consignment, some to friends, and just getting the excess cleared out. One thing is for sure though. We have just added definite square footage to our living area. We added a whole nother room to what we had been using....and boy is it nice!

Here are the pictures...

Family Room BEFORE -

This is the awful carpet and wallpaper -

Here is the $$$ surprise (well some of them) -

And here is the Family Room now after the floor and the furniture swap -

MUCH Better, right?! And of course I'll share pictures as we get more of the work completed. :)

And here is the living room - I don't have a recent before picture as I wasn't planning on doing this before we started so the dog crate was no longer in there but there was a desk and some stands and whatnot, but you get the idea.

Before switch -

And after the furniture swap -

It's picture day!

Something about it seems so unbelievable - to think that my little girl has school pictures today...granted it's preschool, but school none the less. She didn't like the outfit that I got out for her and instead picked another shirt that I paired with jeans and of course she fought me tooth and nail when I tried to talk her into letting me put her hair up. (She won.) She really is becoming so much of her own person. It's exciting, a little sad, lots of happy, and a good mix of frustrating all at the same time. She's only three, but man she looked so big this morning. It was just one of those moments where you take a step back and ask the Lord to not let them grow up too too fast.

Works For Me Wednesday - White Noise!

This machine cannot get enough blessings from me!

It's Works For Me Wednesday again and I have to share with you how I got my son napping in his crib for longer than 10 minutes at a time.

My son was having a terrible time taking naps. EVERY.little.SOUND would wake him from sleep. Most of his naps were taken on my lap for this reason. I loved the cuddles, but it kept me from being able to take care of the house and my daughter. My husband and I talked about trying white noise but then decided against spending the money for the machine. After a few more weeks of napless days we finally took the plunge.

Since getting our Marpac white noise machine he actually naps. He naps for good long stretches as well without being disturbed by all the craziness that happens around him. Just yesterday he was down for a nap and my dog thought it would be a good idea to go upstairs and bark out the window in the very next room...he didn't even stir!

So if you are sick of constantly waking your light sleeper up go out and get yourself one of these! They are worth every penny and have definitely worked for me!

Check out other Works For Me Wednesday tips at Rocks In My Dryer.

E-Man's 4 Month Appointment and Rolling

This morning was a CRAZY morning after a hard night.

E-Man had me up 2 times last night (after going to bed around 11:30). I ended up passing out before I turned the monitor back on...Oops! I was listening to him squealing/fussing himself back to sleep after the second time I was up with him because he thought it was party time and I didn't want the monitor to wake up my husband. I guess my lack of sleep got the best of me. Then I got woken up after I had pressed snooze on my alarm to my daughters scream "DADDY!!". (and may I just note that "Daddy" is almost always gone for work when she screams for him!) She does it at the top of her lungs every.stinkin'.morning. Why oh why can't she just softly say "I'm awake" or anything else QUIETLY? Why? E-Man on the other hand slept till I woke him up at 8:15.

It was rush rush rush after that with taking K-Girl to preschool at 9 and then I had a doctors appointment at 9:30. It was home from the appointment at 10:15 to pack lunches the off to pick K-Girl up at school at 11:30 - give her lunch and eat my own in the car on the way to E-Man's appointment. I got to E-Man's appointment for noon with just minutes to spare. Madness.

E-Man weighed in this morning at 15 lbs 14 oz (in the 75th percentile) and his height was 27 1/4" (the 95th percentile). I don't remember the numbers for his head but that was also 75%. Everything looks good. Then the dreaded part of the visit - shots. Oh how I hate shots and he got 4 again just like 2 month. He did alright though. Yes he cried but he was easily consolable with nursing afterward and slept the whole way home and has been sleeping since we got home. So he's doing alright as opposed to last time when he was clingy and wouldn't rest at all. Hopefully tonight goes alright.

Other news - Tuesday night E-Man was having blanket time and I put him on his belly and he rolled...just once but none the less he did it. AND then last night during blanket time he rolled himself from back to belly about 6 times. The first couple times he would try to roll himself back over but didn't quite get it and so I assisted. Then after that every time he rolled he just screamed and screamed. He hates being on his tummy. Such a difference from the way K-Girl was. Of course with K-Girl I couldn't get her to sleep until I finally put her on her tummy and then the rest was history. E-Man is only content on his back...and his poor hairline is proof. He's going a bit bald in the back where otherwise his hair is really starting to thicken up and darken up quite nicely. Oh well it'll come back. :)

Half Bath Remodel *Pictures*

Have you been anxiously awaiting the pictures to see how our half bath remodel has gone...and perhaps why the "Brady Bunch Bathroom" was that bad? Well then I can make you a happy person today, because I have PICTURES! Yay!

There is still some final touchup painting to be done and a few other little things. Oh and the mirror that we have up right now is our old mirror painted. It was an idea after not being able to find anything that tickled our fancy, but neither of us are very happy with it so it's an "until we find a better" fill in mirror. And may I just say once again that I am totally thrilled with how this remodel went?!

Ok here we go...

The bathroom before...

(and yes there were two doors on the vanity - I almost completely forgot to take before pictures until after the demo had started...luckily I remembered really quickly once that first door was taken off!)

See I told you it was bad!! ;)

And now *drum roll please* here is our beautiful half bath after...

Awesome huh? Yeah I think so. I think it was worth the wait. :) And a big pat on the back to my wonderful hubby (and a little help from a friend) he/they did a GREAT job on it!

*note* It is REALLY hard to take decent pictures of a 17 square foot space...yep CLOSETS are bigger than this bathroom. ;)

Works For Me Wednesday - Backwards Day

Today it's Works For Me Wednesday with a bit of a twist...it's backwards day! So here I am to ask you what works for YOU!

Ok so I don't know if any of you have dealt with this yourselves, but I am PICKY - but I HATE it. I wish I liked half the stuff I don't like. I don't like many vegetables. Just the other night I decided to try something new and made butternut squash fries and guess what?! I liked them! That's huge for me. It makes me so excited to add a new healthy to the list of foods I do enjoy.

But the biggest offender is salad. I hate salad and I want to like it. Everyone told me when I was pregnant that I needed to try it cause my tastes might change. I have tried and still YUCK. It's a texture and a green thing. Lettuce has this funky texture to me and it just tastes....green. I do like other green veggies - ok well I like TWO other green veggies - green beans and lima beans, but that is it. Why can I not get over this lettuce thing?

I don't do many condiments as well - mustard, mayo, miracle whip, no no no....Most anything "salad" I don't like - potato, macaroni, chicken, tuna, no no no no. And you know when you're watching your weight it's nice to have that option of the filler salad and veggies. But I don't have that. And when you are out to eat and the free salad comes with it - well I always get applesauce instead. I feel like in this way I'm stuck as that little kid at the restaurant.

So, I ask you all - What can I do to help get over my issues with lettuce in particular, but really any of my pickiness?

Oh those baby blues!

We went in for 4 month pictures on Sunday and didn't get a chance to go back in to view them yet due to the bathroom remodel and need for groceries last night. However another reason to love Picture People - they e-mail you the proofs. Oh man it's going to be another hard month to pick. We have 11 proofs and almost all of them are GREAT. I'll share a few of my favorites here with you - those of you that have the password - the rest are in my photobucket. ;)

It's going to be a hard time making a decision. Who's to bet we walk out with more than one sheet this month? Hmmmm?

And because I have to here's the 4 month comparison. ;)

Personality Tell?

So last night I'm on my way to Giant to get some groceries alone...all alone. ;) I got behind this beater car that I was pondering how it could have possibly passed the emissions test this year while contemplating putting my windows up as not to have to smell it any longer. However, I got distracted by their bumper stickers. I'm not a huge fan of the big rectangular bumper stickers in the first place. If you want to put them on your car fine, but I would prefer smaller ones. But that's just me. Anyway...

The thing about following these bumper stickers down the road that was driving me particularly crazy was not what they read - "It's a Witch thing you wouldn't understand" - eh I'm all about practicing whatever you believe to be true. Whatever. "It's a Jeep thing you wouldn't understand" that bugs me equally as bad. What is it that I wouldn't understand, huh? Really do tell. And I believe the other said something to the effect of "Freedom of religion is freedom of any religion" or something like that. I agree. What bugged me badly enough to make me want to jump out at one of the 3 lights that I was lucky enough to be stuck behind them at, run around to the driver, smack them upside the head, and tell them at least if they are going to put their huge gaudy stickers on their car to Puh-lease take the time to put them on there straight.

Yes, these are the things that get my panties in bunch. Thought I had issues before? HA!

A bit of blab

To start things off a bathroom update...

It's really coming together. I'm sorry, but I can not bring myself to posting pictures until we are finished. You will just have to wait a little longer. The painting needs some touch up, new light needs to go in, the mirror we got won't fit so we need to find and hang another, and the faucet on the sink needs fixed as it's turned funky. But oh my goodness I feel spoiled already. I know it's just a bathroom, but after having the old bathroom this one feels so good. It makes me so impatient to start the rest of the remodel downstairs here. I hope the rest of it turns out as great as the bathroom.

Otherwise it's been a pretty calm weekend. E-Man went in for his 4 month pictures yesterday. As soon as I get them I'll share them as well. I can't believe our little guy is 4 months old. Time is really flying.

It's always nice to have The Husband home and fun family time, but today is kind of nice being back in our routine. I woke up this morning to my alarm and got myself all put together and actually had to wake K-Girl up. The morning flow is back and part of me does enjoy that (not that if I had the option I wouldn't have my husband home every day - that would be wonderful).

I'm hoping that today K-Girl has a better day at school. Friday I picked her up and I could tell that she had been crying. The teacher said that she had a hard day because she was not able to sit in the chair she always sits in. Here I always thought that they had assigned seats, but nope that's just that my daughter has her seat and that is where she sits every day on her own accord. I can't help but think about how we are at church...you have that one pew you sit in and when someone is in it you get all frustrated and drag your feet over to another unfamiliar pew thinking "Don't they know that is my spot?!" Here's hoping that either she can get her favorite seat today or that she adjusts better to the change. I told my husband what had happened and again he says "She's definitely your daughter." Yep I admit I am a creature of habit and I crave my routine and sense of normalcy. I guess she gets it honestly.
