Thought this was fun. We've heard from everyone that E-Man looks "just like his daddy" and K-Girl looks more like me. Hmmmm?? Maybe not the case? Either way I do agree that they are both a pretty darn good blend of Momma and Daddy.
*** I took down these results - but the results said that E-Man looked more like Momma by 10% and K-Girl looked more like Daddy by 3%* You can try this for yourself at MyHeritage.com/meter ***

It's mine it's mine it's MINE!! YAY!!
I have NEVER felt as good about a car purchase as I feel about this one. We did SO well. I'm quite proud of the deal we got.
So without boring you too much I have to go into it a little.
Yesterday we made an appointment at 2:00 with our salesman. We got there a little after and got started. We looked at the 2007 Silver EX that we had test driven the other night and then he told us that the used car manager said that they had a white (which was our color preference) 2006 EX with 22,000 miles that he would do whatever he had to do to move it. Well we had talked about this before we went in and said if we could trade on a used and it would fit our other criteria and had low mileage that we would do it...but we didn't let them know that right away.
They played the numbers game and it looked like there was no way that they were going to make the 07 fit our target payment, but they came back with an offer for the 06 that was close. So we agreed that we would take the 06 if they could come back with the payment exactly where we wanted for the term that we wanted. If they wanted to make the deal they would do it. So we took it for a test drive and when we came back everything was final and exactly as we walked in that day wanting.
We traded our 06 CR-V with 17,000 for this 06 Odyssey with 22,000 and our payments dropped each month. And not only that but we have a 100,000 mile BUMPER TO BUMPER warranty compared to the normal 3 year warranty that came with our CR-V when we purchased it. I cannot express how wonderful this is.
We have a friend that works for another dealership and filled him in on all the details and he told us that there is no way that anyone could have given us a better deal and that we should feel very good with this. He ran the numbers and told us that there was no way that they were making more than about $500 on this deal. Yay for us!
So soccer mom I am and saving money each month! How great is that?!

Bugs me
So these are made for coffee. I mean right on the box it says "Splenda Flavors for Coffee". One would think that they would actually dissolve in your coffee then right? I didn't notice it with the caramel (probably because it's the same color as my coffee), but the mocha is yucky. All the mocha-ness is floating at the top to be drank with the first sips of your coffee. Blah. I think I'll pass on these from now on. Just had to share that.

Works For Me Wednesday - Best Baby Carrier!
I have been slacking on keeping up with my days of the week lately. It seems I've been realizing that it's been Wednesday on Thursday and Monday on Tuesday. I guess that's what sometimes happens when each day is pretty much a repeat. Oh well. No harm. But with today being my daughter's first day back to school after Thanksgiving break I remember it is WEDNESDAY! Time for Works for Me Wednesday and I'm not going to miss out this week.
This week I'd like to share with you my new best friend. Please meet my Silly Goose Baby Carrier.
This carrier is the only way I can get things done sometimes. It is the one carrier that my little boy just loves. I have a Kozy Carrier which I also adore. I used it for my daughter a lot and still can. E-Man liked it just fine when he was small enough to be froggy leg in a carrier. When he got bigger and wanted his legs out he would cry the moment I put him in it. It obviously wasn't working anymore. So I went on a hunt to find something that would. Amongst other carriers I heard of an adjustable bottom mei tai carrier and thought that would be perfect. Unlike regular mei tai style carriers that are wide in the bottom the adjustable bottom could be pulled tight to make it much smaller and thus fitting between a small baby's legs much better. So I found Silly Goose and I just had to have one.
I also had a love affair with the Heather Ross goldfish fabric and thought this would be the best use for it ever, well in my opinion anyway. So I e-mailed Heidi at Silly Goose and asked her about doing a custom and she was so helpful. I got the fabric from ebay and had it shipped to her and she made it up - even with longer waist straps so that it could work for my husband as well. She was wonderful and so was the carrier.
It is the carrier I use all the time - if we are going to be anywhere any length of time I use my Silly Goose. I've tried using the stroller one time for my son and he hated it. It's big. It's bulky. And it takes up way too much room in the car. My Silly Goose fits in a small bag that I keep in the car. No lost room and a very happy baby.
Typically I wear him on the front, but lately I've been finding that for housework I can get him on my back with the help of a couch or bed all by myself and I can do pretty much anything with him back there. As mentioned before I even made a lot of my Thanksgiving meal with him on my back. It is so much more comfortable than carrying him and I can hold him for a very long time without getting tired. If he's tired when I put him in you can bet he'll be asleep within a few minutes.
I am SO glad that I got this carrier. The Silly Goose Baby Carrier works for me! Head on over to Rocks In My Dryer to find out what other participants are talking about.

And it began to grow...
The Husband planted the seed the other day, tonight we watered it and it began to grow.
What did I do tonight you ask? Oh not too much. We just took a family outing to Honda and test drove a 2007 Odyssey EX. I'm very excited. It was sooooo nice.
The Husband had to take the CR-V into Honda this afternoon to get something or other flushed. (warranty stuff not quite sure on the details) While he was there he was talking to his friend and salesman about the idea of an Odyssey. "B" informed him that since they were unloading 2007s to get ready for 2008s they were taking $4000 right off the top. Well match that with their usual bargaining room and then the fact that this is month's end and you have yourself prime time to be looking.
We have decided that if they can in fact get us into a 2007 (or perhaps 2006 with LOW mileage) for LESS than we are paying now it will be a done deal. It's nothing but a win win for us if that happens. Lots more room for less cash out of pocket each month. Yep I could handle that.
And did I mention that that Odyssey was NICE? Yeah it was wonderful.

That's it schedule the "snip snip"
I fear my son may never sit up...crawl...or any other activity that he has to learn by being by himself on the floor. It doesn't help that my daughter was an over achiever and by 10 months was doing all those baby things plus walking. E-Man has 4 months to catch up to meet that one and I'm not seeing it. Which don't get me wrong is fine by me. Longer he goes without walking the longer I have to enjoy what's left of my sanity. I just wish the boy would let me put him down. If he just lays there and does nothing that's ok by me. I just can't get anything done here lately. He wants me all the time and when I put him down he has a 5 minute rule. He'll give me maybe 5 minutes before he goes into screaming. Frustrating. I made Thanksgiving dinner with him on my back in the carrier as I just didn't have time to fight with him over naps. I feel like I'm just not getting anything done. When I have a productive day and get caught up on lots and have the place looking good it all goes down the dumps before I get another productive day to build on it. I'm always starting at square one. All you mothers/fathers to one out there need to be told that the mother/father to two is a WHOLE different ball game. I always thought it would be different and maybe a bit more difficult, but it's a lot more difficult. I cannot even imagine ever adding a third to it and you mommas/dads of 3+ well I just bow to you. Hats off.
I did actually make the baby food yesterday - took about 5 hours in total. I am working on a post with more detail about that so I won't get too much into that.
I'm trying to catch up on laundry today as I have had a basket of whites sitting in my family room beside my coffee table as a means to remind me to tend to it since ummm last Wednesday? I know it was there for Thanksgiving and I am totally and utterly surprised that my dear mother-in-law did not fold it for me. And I'm even more surprised by the fact that when she was over Sunday and it was still sitting there in that same place that she did not as much as comment on it. But fear not the laundry in that basket was folded and put away this morning...and many loads since.
But the kids are both napping I need to put this time to good use.

Advent & Christmas Activities?
This week I'm working on trying to come up with activities for December. I want to make sure that this year my daughter knows that Christmas is about the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I need to come with the ideas this week so that if I have anything that takes prep work I can get it done. Although I am still in shock that the end of this week it will be December. One month to go before 2008. My goodness. But if any of you have any ideas or things that your family may do to celebrate Advent and Christmas I would LOVE to hear it. I'll let you all know what I end up coming up with. :)

Baby Food & Green Bags
I'm pumped and ready to go. I finally got to all the stops I needed to make in order to make baby food. I'm going to go ahead and make a bunch up tomorrow. I'm excited to do it. I have butternut squash, carrots, sweet potatoes, pears, peaches, bananas, and I found this blueberry applesauce in the organic section as well that I think he would like. I just need to blend it smoother as it has whole berries. I was able to get most of it organic also. I'm pleased.
And then to make it better I asked The Husband if he should get some of their reusable bags at check out. We decided to get 4 ($0.99 each). We had $70 something in groceries and (other than our gallon which we don't bag anyway) it all fit in those 4 bags. Amazing. So if we had a full shopping trip we could probably get away with another 4 and be good to go. And they were so much nicer to carry as well. Now we'll only have to get plastic when we need trash bags. Yay!

Van Fever
I miss my van.
There are days where I regret having to get rid of it, but when I think back to having to replace an entire transmission and not having the funds to do so well... It made sense to unload it. And I'm not saying a word against my CR-V. It's a great car and I enjoy it very much.
I just miss my van.
The Husband said the other day as he was playing around on his computer as I was blogging that he could get a blah blah blah Odyssey for cheaper payments than we are paying now.
Oh???
So now I've got me the van fever.
I LOVE the Odyssey (see: #69) and although I love my CR-V, I'm sorry but I would drop it in a heartbeat to have an Odyssey at cheaper payments than I'm paying today. No contest.
But alas. I'm probably just going to drool for a while longer. It wasn't our plan to be doing anything till at least next year. But with our family who knows. We like to hop cars fairly often around here. Or well it seems to happen that way at least. I've probably owned more cars in my short 11 years driving career than most have in a lifetime. *counting in my head* Eight cars. Holy moly. EIGHT!? Oy. Yes I believe I have a problem. ;)

Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
I started the day (in the kitchen) at 10am...I wrapped up at 8pm. I'm tired. But I did it. My very first Thanksgiving. And man did I do a good job. Yep everything was edible and I got some pretty rave reviews (and I don't think they were just being nice either). And since I tempted you with my menu. I think I'll tempt you some more with the pictures. Not that it's that beautiful but man was it good.
...you know, I just realized I forgot the nuts on top of the cake. Darnit.

Hypocrite
My husband and I have had fun for a few years now mocking other people's "blow ups". What did we go out and buy?
Yeah we got a 4' tall penguin.
My daughter just LOVES these things. L-O-V-E-S loves them! So we just could not help but get her one to appreciate without leaving the house.
Now who knew but she's scared of them if they are not inflated, but as soon as they are up they have their magic and she just loves them. Don't ask.
I feel like such a hypocrite. But he's only 4'. That makes it a little better right?
Right???

Calgon...
Oh.my.goodness.
I'm beat. Just plain beat.
It was one of those days where the husband doesn't come home till the kids are in bed. Have I mentioned lately that I'm glad that isn't a super frequently occurring thing in this house? Put that together with the fact that I have been the least motivated person I know for the past...well too long. I just haven't been able to get my heiny movin' lately. So today was my day to get it in gear. Yeehaw.
From the time I woke up till the just now it's been go go go go go. K-Girl ate breakfast at her little table in her room because I wanted to get started in on the cleaning before E-Man's first nap. It worked out well. Other than the fact that E-Man didn't want to nap. I tried to put him down twice and he just jabbered away at me. So I finally gave up and decided to get my carrier and try tying him on my back alone. Well with the help of my bed it worked well. And wouldn't you know it but he took his nap in there. Almost as soon as I started moving he passed out and stayed out till I was completely done with K-Girl's room and had most of his room cleaned ceiling to floor. Then I managed to get most of our bedroom done before having to break for lunch.
Then it was lunch and soon after naps. Naps were much too short today. I put them down at 1:10...E-Man was asleep by 1:15, K-Girl by 1:40. E-Man was up at 2:05 and K-Girl at 2:30. Yeah so not long enough. And so since both were up I went back to work. I decided to stay downstairs since K-Girl wanted a movie. The kitchen went from a tornado to looking pretty darn good if I do say so myself. Then there was another nap by E-Man on my back - not my plan this time. Dinner. Bath. Bed.
Bed.
My son refuses to be away from me when he sleeps and here lately like the past 3ish days it's been worse than usual. I mean I'm getting pretty used to the fact that if when he gets me up at 1:00 (being generous here) I don't just bring him into bed with us I will be up about 4 more times. Possibly why I've been lacking motivation?? Perhaps. But it's been working well. He still goes to bed in his bed, hubby and I get our time, and then he comes over where he and I both have a pretty good night's sleep all things considered.
Tonight I got him down to bed at about 8:10. And the screaming began.
And continued...
and continued...
and continued.
I'm not one for letting them cry. I did it with my daughter because that's what we were supposed to do. Anyway. I spent the time she was crying in her crib crying on the step outside her room. I do not wish to have those memories again. So E-Man cried for about 10 minutes. Then I went back to him and tried to nurse him to sleep. I laid him down and he cried. I waited 15 minutes and went back. This time he realized that if he nursed he would sleep and this was bad so he went on strike and screamed. I walked and walked and walked. He started nodding off so I laid him down. All was quiet for about 3 minutes and then the screaming started. Rinse and repeat. Ugh. I finally came down stairs last time at 9:40 for what seems like good seeing as it's 10:05 and he's still quiet. Thank the good Lord.
I truly believe that he needs the closeness. It's in his personality. K-Girl didn't care who she was with and liked her own time as well. E-Man does not. E-Man wants ME and he wants me ALL.THE.TIME. It's frustrating. And now it's leaking into bed time. I hope this is a short phase because man tonight...
I.Am.Beat!

Gung Ho
Tonight after the kids were both in bed I was able to head to the grocery store...All By Myself! Yay! It was quite an enjoyable experience. I took time to peruse the produce and the organic sections to see what actually was available. I was able to get everything...ok so there have been a few things that I realize I need to go back for...for Thanksgiving dinner.
I earned a free turkey which I'm super excited about. There were about 3 cold bins with turkeys in that read free. Well upon reading the labels on those I see that "Solution includes turkey broth, salt, and spices" Ummmm yeah I don't want a turkey that has a solution so I look around and found a Kosher turkey that also said that from 10 - 15 lbs was free. There were only a fraction of the turkeys than the solution filled ones. I dug around looking for the most poundage and managed to actually find a 14.99lb turkey. I kid you not. It rang up $32 something and I got it for FREE. Oh yes I am excited. And that is all I will divulge about my Thanksgiving feast until tomorrow's Menu Plan Monday post. ;)
I have also decided that I will be making baby food. I looked around a few websites and found that you can freeze canning jars. There are little 4 oz jelly ones that would be PERFECT. No baggies to worry about less waste and less fuss...at least in my head. So we're off to Wal-Mart *cringe* tomorrow to see about getting some canning jars. If we find them then I'll be heading back to the store to pick up a few veggies/fruits to try out. Can't wait. If you all are confident that I can do it...well then I will rise to the occasion and give it a try. And honestly I'm a bit excited about it. *L* Hey why not? Do you really expect any less from the one who gets excited over her baby's diapers? Yeah I thought so. :)

Madness!
Ok most people that are going to buy organics are also more environmentally conscious people. Well in my opinion anyway. So it KILLS me every time I open a Gerber organic plastic container of baby food and see the number 7 on the bottom. Who recycles sevens? We cannot. And it drives me batty to throw away those little plastic containers - now about 3 a day.
What happened to the little glass jars??? Glass is recyclable everywhere. Number sevens not so much. What was the thinking behind this?
I'm thinking of buying Earth's Best instead just because they come in little glass jars. And perhaps contacting Gerber to voice my opinion.
And then to this I think I need to just take the jump, figure it out, and make my own baby food as I had been thinking of doing anyway. I'm just not exactly sure what is involved and what I need to get started.
Anyone out there make their own baby food and could offer me any tips? I'd greatly appreciate them.

The holidays have one definite perk...
Starbuck's!
I love when Starbuck's brings back their holiday flavors. YUM! Peppermint Mocha being one of my favorites. In past I have stuck with the Light Frappuccinos, but my husband came home from his travels telling me that I just had to try a Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha. His travel partner has a twice daily Starbuck's habit (EEEK for the wallet - luckily he probably expenses it) and he had tried one and loved it. So I went this morning and got one myself. Being the "point-conscious" one that I am figured if I got it Nonfat/No Whip it wouldn't be too bad.
Fast forward to this evening - and yeah this totally contradicts my whole "point-conscious" thing I had going. But we had planned on going to Dairy Queen for a special treat, but as we were loading up after Target K-Girl says that she wants popcorn and an ICEE. After asking her a half dozen times if she's sure that she wants popcorn rather than ice cream The Husband went back to get it for her. Heck $1.00 popcorn/ICEE deal at Target you can't beat it. So we decided instead of going to Dairy Queen which was sure to start a fight even though she said she wanted her popcorn we went to Starbuck's...again. After all, The Husband hadn't been there today.
So I get home and prepare to blog on my love of Starbuck's at the holidays. I pull up their site and I decide to check out the nutrition info for my new love *deep breath* Grande Decaf Nonfat Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha No Whip. *pause to catch breath*

(I guess incase you aren't up on the whole Weight Watchers Points thing I should tell you here that typically I should have 22 points a DAY - granted thanks to breastfeeding I actually get 32, but still.)
Ok so I'm not quite over my shock. I'm used to my Grande Caramel Frappuccino Light that rates in at 3 points.
So today I took in 16 points in Starbuck's coffee.
...and we won't even go into the darn pumpkin loaf.
But alas, Starbuck's I love you - and all of your holiday flavors as well. And upon doing my homework I've decided I'll try the Grande Nonfat Gingerbread Latte No Whip next time for just 4 points. Yes, that I believe I could deal with.

Holiday Ho-hum
The holidays are fast approaching. Next week is already Thanksgiving. This means that Christmas is right around the corner. Lists to Santa. Lists to family. Lists to friends. I want I want I want. I'm just feeling a bit ho hum about the holidays this year.
I'm looking forward to the fact that this is my son's first Christmas and that K-Girl is totally into all of it. She's so excited as we start to see Christmas decorations when we're out and about. I'm looking forward to the fact that we are doing less running and more with our little family. I'm looking forward to starting or keeping with traditions.
However the whole gift thing has got me down.
Yesterday I was standing in line to pick my daughter up at preschool. The two mothers in front of me in line were talking about returning their Aqua Dots. I was listening because well they were right in front of me and what else was I going to do? ;) So anyway they go on talking about Christmas shopping and the one mother says to the other that her father asked her what her kids would like for Christmas. She said that she had no idea and that they didn't need anything at all. Then the part that really stuck with me. She said that she went to Toys R Us to walk around to try to come up with ideas.
I mean come on. What has this all come to that we wander around the isles of the toy store just to come up with something for someone else to buy our children. I'm as guilty of this as the next Mom. To come up with the Christmas list to send down to the husband's family I looked online for a few ideas. It's this simple.
These kids don't NEED anything.
Ok they may need some clothing as they all grow like weeds. They may put some bubble bath to good use, but on a whole these kids are spoiled. It's terrible that we cannot think of what to get our children because they already have too much.
And maybe my kid is abnormal (but I doubt it), but they expect it too! By the end of the season last year my daughter would ask anyone we got together with where her present was.
It's crazy. We seem to all worry more about who is getting what and we seem to put the true meaning of Christmas - celebrating the birth of Jesus - second. If there is one thing I hope to do this year is to make sure that my daughter knows why we REALLY celebrate Christmas.

Call it a cop-out
I have three topics bouncing around inside my head that you will be reading soon. However, my husband came home this evening rather than Friday as expected so unfortunately for you that means I'm checking in, saying hi, and I'll see you tomorrow for one of those three things.

My daughter the nurse
Sunday night K-Girl went to bed at 8:30ish. She was still playing in bed an hour later. This type of thing is not terribly out of the norm so although we wanted her to sleep we didn't do anything hoping that she would just play herself to sleep.
Another hour later when she was still talking and playing in her room I started to wonder. I asked the husband if we should go tell her to get to sleep or what we should do. Finally about another 20 minutes or so he decided to go and investigate.
Little did he know he was about to walk in on a bed full of recovering toys. Poor babies, stuffies, and animals recovering from their terrible boo-boos. We were oblivious downstairs to their unfortunate accidents - bumping their heads on the walls, hurting themselves by falling off the bed, hitting their heads on the headboard. And there was K-Girl to selflessly tend to their boo-boos and nurse them back to health.
Luckily after used band-aide papers were pulled from the bed and the few unopened band-aids returned to the package our sweet little girl was able to catch some well deserved rest after tending to the needs of others till far too late in the night.
These pictures were taken the next morning...
No animal too little...
Many tails we're harmed...
Some had larger boo-boos than the others...
And those poor poor babies...
There is now a child safety lock on the hallway closet.
...and I must remember to add band-aides to my shopping list

Menu Plan Monday
It's Menu Plan Monday so I'll post my VERY uninspiring plan. Enjoy. ;) It's going to be a loooong week. On the weight loss front - down .2 lbs. Pretty good considering. I was fully expecting a gain. I'm most definitely an emotional eater and I've been having a stressful time here lately. (Typed as I'm eating Pringles from the can...hey at least they are only 1 point per 14 chips so it can't be too bad...right?) This week is not the greatest of foods, but there's no reason to be cooking nice dinners this week. So if you are a toddler these meals will probably sound wonderful to you. If not? Well they will do. And as for Weight Watchers...umm yeah well the rest of the day...
1. Rosetto Cheese Tortellini & Prego Sauce
2. Chicken Patties & Mac N Cheese
3. Fish Sticks, Clam Strips, & French Fries
4. Freschetta Brick Oven 5 Cheese Pizza
5. Hamburger Helper Lasagna
6. Ham Steak, Rice, veggie
7. I'm not doing 7 because I know full well I will be getting a meal out this week. ;)

Growing up
Well I think I'm officially all grown up. It's not the fact that I am married...have a mortgage...two children...etc etc Nope it's the fact that this year for Thanksgiving I'm making a turkey. I'm worried. A TURKEY. This is a huge deal. We hosted Thanksgiving the year before K-Girl, but my mother-in-law supplied the turkey. I dodged it that year. But I figure since I do have the husband and the two children it's about time to have Thanksgiving here. And honestly I don't feel like going anywhere else so I just have to figure it out and do it.
Now I'll have to find out if I have a pan to make the turkey in.
Hmmmmm...

Should I...
Do you ever just feel overwhelmed with "I should..."?
There are so many things just endlessly swimming around in my brain nagging at me to do them.
Or at least that I should be doing them.
And it seems the more shoulds that appear the less productive that I actually get.
I guess really the only thing to really cure this is that I really just need to suck it up and get to work.
But then the obsessive compulsive side steps in and I get all hung up on having to get these things done perfectly that I end up not starting because I might not have time to complete it or do it to my standards.
And so the shoulds continue to grow.
It's a pain in the ass. Really.

Tree Hugger
Having kids has changed me in more ways than I could possibly get into, but one thing it's done is make me more aware about the environment. I mean here I am popping out kids that have their entire lives ahead of them and here we are messing up what will be their Earth. I mean what parent doesn't think about that? Call me crazy but it scares me to wonder what their quality of life will be and what my future grand children's life will be like.
It makes me quite happy to see all this "green" talk lately. NBC has even set up an entire page devoted to spreading the news - Green is Universal. It has some pretty interesting information and some blogs that I have enjoyed reading through.
My husband, bless his heart, tries to support me in this as much as possible. He agrees but I guess he doesn't quite have the passion that I feel about it. He laughs me off a lot, but I guess if he didn't we'd probably be in the poor house going out and getting all these nifty gizmos and whatnot. There are just sooo many things I would like to do differently, but I suppose baby steps will work. If only everyone were taking the baby steps what an amazing difference we would see.
We have changed almost every bulb in our house to florescents. This took a bit of talking to convince my husband as the up front cost is greater, but he was sold after replacing the light outside with a florescent. We had been changing that bulb seriously every month. I have no idea but for some reason it would constantly be burning out. Since replacing it with a florescent that same bulb has been in and going strong for a few months now which is a great thing. We also do the cloth diaper thing. Before the baby came we decided to buy a new washer and dryer and got front loaders. LOVE THEM! We try to use as many environmentally friendly cleaners and soaps as we can. We recycle (although I need to look into what other recycling we could be doing as I found out that if you actually take it to the facility that we could be recycling more). I'm the light police and am constantly turning lights off around here (my husband is a big offender to this one). I turn off the water when I brush my teeth. You know it's not all the biggest things, but I'm working on it.
There is so much more that we could be doing though and I want to work on changing more.
- So much of the garbage that we put out is organic material. With a toddler we have SO much food and stuff that gets thrown away. I would love to start a compost bin for that.
- I also want to get a low flow shower head.
- I also want to buy reusable shopping bags and get away from using plastic bags every time I go to the store. Now do I need some of them, because I use them for scooping the cat litter and for the trash bags in our bathrooms/bedrooms.
- The next car we buy will definitely be some kind of a hybrid or a crossover or something like that. Hey Honda - get on making your Odyssey more efficient so that by the time we're ready we can possibly afford one. ;)
- I want to make it more of a priority to buy organic or local. I need to start checking out farmers markets.
- We're replacing some of our windows that are MAJOR offenders. Our upstairs is SO cold and I hate to think of the heat that is just pouring out those old windows. It will be a much cozier winter once we start on this one. (Come on January!)
- In the near future I want to get my husband to get some insulation and wrap our water heater as well.
There are so many things that I could be doing, but I think I have what every.single. other person out there needs. That is ACKNOWLEDGEMENT. We need to know what we're doing to our Earth. We need to try to do everything in our power every day to lessen the impression we are leaving. It's the little things. Take some baby steps. If each and every one of us started baby steps oh what a happy day it would be.

Getting back to productive
Thank you, SAHMmy! Thank you for the kick in the pants that I needed to finally sit down and revise my old cleaning schedule and get it ready for use again. It's been since... Alright I'm embarrassed to say how long it has been, but it's definitely time to get back to it. I thought I would post and share and maybe share the inspiration. See!
So here's how it works. I have a different schedule for each day of the week, although they are very similar.
First things first I have "What's for dinner?" so that right there on my list I am looking at what I have to make for dinner. It's there no questions asked. Simple.
Every day I have "The Dailies". Pretty self explanatory - I do these the same every.day. On this list I have...
- Make Beds
- Open Curtains
- Run Dishwasher
- Empty Dishwasher
- Load Dishwasher
- Put Dishes Away
- Wipe Kitchen Counters & Sink
- Scoop Cat Litter
- Sweep Basement
- Feed Cats
- Feed & Water Dog
- The 5 Minute Room-to-Room
- 15 Minute Deep Clean
I pretty much do these anyway without having the list, but having each of them (even as simple as some are) on the list it gives me the accountability factor that I need to make sure I get to them. The simple ones make me feel better too - it always feels good to be able to cross something off. And it helps the hubby if he feels like helping out when he's around as what I actually do during the day is a bit of a mystery to him. He just knows that when he's home my rhythm is a bit off (although that being said does NOT mean that I don't enjoy him being home).
The 5 Minute Room-to-Room I will go around and work on a room for 5 minutes. There are some rooms that don't take a full 5 minutes and that's fine. This ensures that the rooms that weren't in my focus that day at least get a quick once over - picking up things that are out of place, a quick wipe of bathroom sinks/toilets, etc.
15 Minute Deep Clean is another idea I got from SAHMmy. 15 minutes is NOT a long time, but it is plenty of time to really get some results. I will pick something and work 15 minutes on it. If I finish it 100% in less time - great. If I'm not finished on the project I can finish up if time permits, come back after the rest of the list is completed, or just get back to it tomorrow. I want to put a cap on it though so that it seems completely doable.
Next on my schedule is Vacuum-Sweep-Mop a Zone. Whatever the floor surface calls for that's what I'll do. This way I'm cleaning the floor regularly like I should be, but I'm not having to do the entire house every time I get around to it. It's separated into very manageable "zones".
- Entry Level
- Living Room, Stairs, & Hallway
- Bedrooms
Easy enough, right? :)
Next we have "Pick a Zone to Clean". I've separated my house into manageable zones - 6 of them so that I leave myself a day. This will be Sunday and if I've been good that week I get to have the day off. If I haven't been then I have a day to catch up before the new week starts. My zones are...
- Basement & Half Bath
- Living Room, Foyer, Stairs, & Hallway
- Family Room & Dining Room
- Bedrooms
- Bathroom
- Kitchen
Next on my schedule I have "DAY SPECIFIC". I have different things each day that I need to make sure that I do that day.
- Monday
- Wash Molly’s Bowls
- Launder Molly’s Sheet
- Wash Molly’s Bowls
- Tuesday - no specifics
- Wednesday
- Change Bed Sheets
- Change Towels
- Change Bed Sheets
- Thursday
- Gather Garbage & Recyclables
- Change the Cat Litter
- Gather Garbage & Recyclables
- Friday
- Bring Trash Cans Back
- Bring Trash Cans Back
- Saturday
- Something Outside
- Make a Meal Plan & Store List
- Something Outside
- Sunday
- Change Towels
- Something Outside
- Grocery Shopping
- Change Towels
Lastly on my schedule I have "Notables for Today". This is a few lines that I can write anything special about the day. It can be whatever plans we have or anything I think of that I need to jot down.
So that's it. That's my cleaning schedule. My house looked amazing when I used to work by schedule. It's been a while so I need to get back into the swing of things and focus on making it routine once again. I can't wait until that happens.

Only three?
When did she go and grow up? Doesn't help that I don't think she looks 3 at all. Maybe more like 5. It doesn't seem that long ago when she was so teeny tiny.

A little help here?! WFMW - Backwards Edition
It's another Works For Me Wednesday Backwards Edition! So I'm here to ask you what works for YOU!
I'm looking for change. Change is hard, but sometimes necessary to thrive and I'm seeing that in the Gohn household it is time for one when it comes to parenting.
Our three year old has been very trying lately and what used to work for us no longer works. I used to be able to say no and sometimes give her a pop on the heiny when warranted and she would straighten right up. This no longer works. I find myself having to raise my voice too much and too often and spanking has absolutely no effect on her. I'm looking for something new. Something where I no longer feel like the Big Bad Momma, but I still see results.
So my question for you all is what is your parenting style? How do you discipline? What have you found that truly works for you and your headstrong preschooler as well? Links, books, resources greatly appreciated. The more specific the better.
I know when it comes to parenting a lot of us tend to get a little feisty. Let's spread the information and try not to pass the judgement. :) Thanks!! I'm looking forward to your input.

Yep, she's mine
Last night there was much craziness at bedtime as there typically is. For some reason here lately K-Girl throws a HUGE fit every night at bedtime. If her point is to stay up later she typically succeeds as it adds a good 15 - 20 minutes onto bedtime by trying to get her little unwilling self into bed for good. It's loads of fun.
Last night I left the room telling her NOT to call us unless she had to pee.
Yeah come on that's just ASKING for her to call us twenty times in need of a trip over to the bathroom. Fun.
But anyway back on track.
After putting her to bed and going to get myself ready, I come back out in the hallway and hear her little voice, "Momma, Momma!"
I turned and shot her "the look".
She quickly put both hands up as if suggesting a truce, holds up her little picture album, and says "It's just not right!" in total distress.
I took pity on her and went in as I know if something was not "right" for me it would bug me until it was fixed. The Husband's Aunt made her this little picture album of random pictures of her and other family member from the time she was born. She treasures this book and requires it in bed every night. The other night she had taken about half of the pictures in this little album out, and last night I had asked my husband to put them back in as I was putting her into bed. He didn't think it was a big deal and put them in any old way. To a "normal" person it would not matter. To K-Girl it mattered a WHOLE bunch.
Finally 15 minutes later when the book was put together "correctly" she could finally lay down and relax.
...and only called a couple more times for those fun trips to the bathroom.
It's times like these when I realize how much of myself is in that little girl. Lord help her future husband. Right, honey? ;)

Saving her teeth
Yep that's what I'm doing. It's for her own good.
A cowtale ended up in my daughter's bag from Trick or Treating. I have been looking at that cowtale every.single.day since Halloween. It's been calling to me... PLEADING with me to eat it. I've been able to deny myself the cowtale...
...until now.
Sorry K-Girl.
But you're only three and have your entire life ahead of you to enjoy these sweet treats. The memories from summer days at the pool just overcame me and I could no longer keep from eating the cowtale. It was just as delightful as I remember.
I'm sorry.
...no really I am.
...sorta.

Menu Plan Monday
Happy Monday everyone.
I'm constantly changing up the way I'm dealing with Menu Plan Monday, but I figure one of these weeks I'll find magic and we'll be good to go. At least I'm on it this week.
Last week was a bad week. We ate out a LOT. Surprisingly I lost another 3 lbs. How that happened I am totally puzzled about. The Husband is holding steady. So not bad even though I've had more chocolate this week than I have in the last few months. ;)
I will be writing 7 meals down each Monday. These are the meals of the week. Whatever day we plan on making them is up in the air. We pick as we go. If it is a week like last week where we are behaving poorly and have a bunch of leftover meals then they go onto the next week. This makes grocery shopping easy as I know I have enough meals for a week and if I haven't made them all my shopping is that much easier. So that's the new plan.
Also due to requests I will be adding recipes to new meals that I post and try to be a little more detailed. Any questions just give a yell. :) So on with the show...
1. Pork Chops with Sweet Potatoes and Pears(7 Pts/Serving)
1 Tbsp vegetable oil
1 Tbsp all-purpose flour
1 tsp curry powder
3/4 tsp table salt
1 pound lean boneless pork chop, four 4 oz pieces
15 oz canned sweet yams in syrup, drained
15 oz unsweetened canned pears, drained, reserve 1/2 cup juice
1/2 tsp dried thyme
1/8 tsp black pepper
1.In a large nonstick skillet, heat oil.
2.In a large sealable plastic bag, mix flour, curry powder and 1/4 tsp of salt. Add pork and shake to coat.
3.Transfer pork to skillet. Sauté until cooked through, about 3 minutes on each side.
4.Meanwhile, cut yams into bite-size chunks. Add to pork with pears, reserved pear juice, thyme, pepper and remaining 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Reduce heat and simmer until pork is cooked through, about 2 minutes longer.
yields 4 servings
~16 minutes Prep
8 min cook time
2. Morning Star Veggie Burgers w/ Martin's Whole Wheat Potato Rolls(4 Pts each), Ore Ida Extra Crispy Seasoned Crinkles French Fries (3 Pts/Serving) (tater tots for the kid), Green Beans (0 Pts!)
*typically we get Boca Burgers because they are 1 point each. We were told that this brand tastes better so we thought we'd give them a try. Upon getting them home I found out they are 3 points per burger. We'll see if the taste is that much better to be worth 2 extra points. The slight after taste of Boca Burgers still does not outweigh the awesomeness of being only 1 point.
3. Baked French Toast (6 Pts/Serving) & EssKay Smoked Turkey Bacon (1 Pt per piece)
2 large egg(s)
1/2 cup fat-free skim milk
2 tsp powdered sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
4 slice whole-wheat bread, thick
1 Tbsp unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220ºC). Coat a baking sheet with cooking spray.
2. Lightly beat eggs with a fork in a shallow bowl. Whisk in milk, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon.
3. Soak bread in egg mixture, then transfer to baking sheet. Sprinkle with butter and bake until golden, 8 to 10 minutes.
Yields 2 servings
~10 minute prep
10 minutes cook time
4. Freschetta Brick Oven 5 Italian Cheese Pizza (7 Pts/Serving - 1/4 of the pizza!)
5. Saucy Parmesan Chicken (4 Pts/Serving), Lipton Pasta Sides Butter & Herb (6 Pts/Serving), Corn (1 pt = 1/2 c.)
4 sml chicken breasts (1 lb)
1/4 c. Light Zesty Red Fat Dressing
1/4 c. Parmesan Cheese
Place all ingredients in bag - seal and evenly coat.
Place in refrigerator for 30 min to marinate.
Remove Chicken from bag and place on baking sheet
Preheat oven to 425 - Bake 20 minutes or until cooked
Cal 180
Fat 6g
Fiber 0
Points 4/serving
6. Ball Park Fat Free Beef Franks on Martin's Whole Wheat Potato Roll (2 Pts each), Velveeta Shells and Cheese (4 pts in 1/2 c), Lima Beans (1 pt = 1/2 c.)
7. Ronzoni Healthy Harvest Whole Wheat Blend Thin Spaghetti (3 Pts/Serving) w/ Prego Traditional Sauce (1 pt = 1/2 c.) and probably a slice of Martin's Whole Wheat Potato Bread (1 pt per slice) w/ Butter (1 pt = 1/2 Tbsp)

A Concussion?
Yes, I left last night's post a bit open ended there. I apologize. ;)
My stepfather affectionately nicknamed my daughter "Gracie". Why you ask? She's as doppy (see meaning 3) as anything. My goodness the girl is constantly tripping, running into things, and other acts of pure grace. It's something that we haven't been investigated for abuse as many bumps and bruises as that child accumulates.
Yesterday at IKEA was nothing different. In no time flat "Gracie" made her debut. We were looking at the office section and K-Girl crawled up on a chair...
on wheels...
umm yeah you know where this is headed
I hear a bang and crying only to look over and see the chair quite far away from the desk and my little girl on the floor. She hit her head good on that desk on the way down. So ok I was hoping incident was over, but now that wouldn't be K-Girl for you.
A little later the girls were running around. The way the store is set up is that there is a main pathway around the store and then these little lips to go up into the displays. Well K-Girl tripped on one of those and ran herself right into a support beam. She hit hard and then hit the floor equally as hard. She got herself right in the side of the head.
Today she is sporting a few marks from the day but otherwise she's doing fine. Thank goodness my child has a hard head.
...perhaps this year Santa should bring a helmet. ;)

I'm no longer...
an IKEA-virgin! Yay!!
In conversation our friends found out that The Husband and I have never been to an IKEA and they decided that they needed to change that. So we made a date to go together today. Oh.My.Gosh! Watch your wallets!
IKEA is amazing. If you have not been there...go! We will be going back many times I'm sure. The only thing I'm wishing is that we had one closer, but perhaps if rumor is true we may just have one coming to the area. I'm crossing my fingers on that one.
The only thing we left with today was a mirror for the 1/2 bath - Yay! I get to take the one I painted out. Yipee! $9.99 not too bad for the hundreds thousands I could have spent with ease. I've decided we need to go back with a written mission and color swatches and get our shop on.
I can not wait!
...and maybe next time my daughter won't end up with a concussion...

Quiet?
I have officially lost my voice. I used to think it was cool when I was younger...umm yeah not so cool. And who'd of thunk it but my daughter had a COMPLETE meltdown because I have no voice. Like bawling, blubbery mess kind of meltdown. I'm not that upset, but I'd be happy if tomorrow I wake up and it has returned.

Halloween Fun
Halloween has come and gone. Seriously, where is this year going? I cannot believe that Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner. Crazy. But back to the holiday at hand.
Tuesday we took the kids out to The Husband's Mam-Maw's house and did trick or treating out there with Mam-Maw, Aunt F., and Nan & Pap. Then afterwards we went to my mom's house to trick or treat to Nanny, Grandma, and PopPop. It was a good evening and K-Girl ended up with a huge booty after just those two stops. This is before actual trick or treating. So not good for Weight Watchers. ;)
Here's a picture of my adorable puppies before leaving the house...
Then Halloween day was a lot busier. We started the day getting ready for preschool, costume and all. K-Girl had a parade and program for Halloween at her school. It was very cute. All the kids were dressed up. They came in and paraded around the room and then got up on stage and sang songs and did finger plays. K-Girl was interested in checking out everyone else's costumes more than singing for the first half of the program. haha But after that she got into singing with the rest of them. It was fun to see all the songs that I've been hearing for the past month put together and preformed.
Here she is "stirring her brew"
After the program was over she went back to class to have a Halloween party and The Husband, E-Man, and I headed home and then to Target to get small presents for the kids. When we all got home we gave the kids their presents...
K-Girl got crayons (triangular so they aren't always rolling away), a pack of pumpkin stickers, and a big Halloween Sesame Street coloring book. And for her goodie she got an M&M cookie from Starbuck's - she was very excited. We packed all this in a Ghost goodie bag that she could use that evening.
E-Man got a ring stacker. Not exactly Halloween themed, but it's hard to find anything for a 5 month old for the holiday. He liked it just fine though. And for his treat he got a tootsie pop.
For K-Girl's first Halloween she had a Lifesaver Pop so we thought it only fitting that he had his own lollipop as well. Granted his sister was a month younger than he is at this point, but was eating pretty much all the fruits and veggies by now and at that point had only ever had cereal. But we decided to do it anyway.
He L.O.V.E.D. it!
Don't worry though he only had a few licks...much to his dismay. He was really determined to find out once and for all how many licks it takes to get to the center of that thing. K-Girl claimed it once we took it from him though.
After nap we decided to give him carrots for the first time - his first veggie. He loved them. Halfway through he gave some questionable faces but kept opening his mouth for more. He ate the entire container. I was surprised. He's on his third day of them and still is enjoying them. Next week we'll move onto something else.
When K-Girl woke up we got dinner together and then got ready for trick or treating. As dinner was cooking our friends called and asked if they could still come over and join us. Of course the more the merrier with us and K-Girl was super excited to have someone to trick or treat with. E-Man dressed in his skeleton sweats and went in the carrier and K-Girl in costume. We made it both sides of our road and down into the new development to make the entire loop and come back. By the time we got back bags were quite heavy and the kids - well at least our's - were ready to dig in.
Unfortunately this year we over bought in the treats department. Last year we didn't have a single thing left when we got back from trick or treating ourselves. (We put the treats out by the door for the kids to help themselves.) We bought more this year so as not to run out and are stuck with a huge bowl full. Again...bad for Weight Watchers. I have this bad thought process which tells me that I should just eat it all then I couldn't have to worry about it being here anymore and I don't have to let all that yummy stuff go to waste...or should I say "waist". ;) Oh well. What's a holiday if you can't enjoy it...extra pounds and all. I'll get back on track just in time for Thanksgiving to derail me. haha
I hope all of you had an equally enjoyable Halloween! :)

Giddy
About what? My hair. Giddy you ask? Yes, Giddy.
For so long I've been stuck without style. I've had this hair and I've had no stinkin' clue what to do with it. I've gone to various people saying help me and no one has really done it for me. I've had cuts I've liked but nothing that I've been near giddy over. Well, it's happened. I'm giddy over my hair. Yes, giddy. ;)
I've been complaining about this for a while and told my husband my thoughts of just going to someone completely new that didn't know me or ever touch my hair before then they would have nothing to go on other than my hair. So my husband suggested I try a place I went years ago and I said oh what the heck. I went in for my appointment today with Amy. Amy comes out to meet me and she's got tattoos up her arms and dark hair dyed purple - she said she was bored this morning because an appointment cancelled. Now where a "normal" person may be nervous as a person matching this description walked up to them, I rejoiced. I knew she wouldn't be scared to do something fun and that she wouldn't object to me wanting something different. Yay for Amy!
So we went back and she checked out my hair and I told her that my other stylist seems to be stuck in a rut so I decided to try someone new. She was elated. I said I wanted something different and something fun and something ME. She immediately said she knew what to do and started telling me about it. I thought it sounded like a good idea so we went with it. The whole time she's saying how excited she is because too many people in this area are afraid of anything different, etc etc. (Ok yeah I was a bit nervous.)
But oh.my.gosh. I love it! And I'm all excited. She wanted to take a picture of my hair for her portfolio. Yay!
Of course I took pictures - although my mom (babysitting) was running late so I grabbed the camera as I ran out the door and got before pictures in route to the salon...how's that for some multi-tasking? ;) So check it out. I've got a style!

AFTER:
Yep. Still giddy.
...and I get to go in two Tuesdays from now for color. Yipee!

A challenge
I signed up for the NaBloPoMo this morning. What is that you may be wondering? Well quite simply it's a challenge to post one entry a day for the entire month of November. Since I've been slacking a bit around here I thought this might be fun and the fact that I almost never blog on the weekends it should be a challenge. But I accept the challenge and we'll see how I do.

Works For Me Wednesday
Yeah it's Thursday, but ya know yesterday being Halloween and all the craziness that went along with it I didn't even get to touch my computer until after the kids were in bed. So it may be a bit unorthodox, but better late than never in my book, right? Right! So for this week's Works for Me Wednesday I wanted to share a few of my Weight Watchers staples...those foods which I've found that work with losing weight but that are also yummy and worth the points.
Martin's Famous Whole Wheat Potato Bread - One Slice=1 point
This is seriously my favorite bread ever. It's sooo soft and yummy. Not to mention it's a thick slice unlike most of the low calorie crap out there. Awesome awesome awesome!
Martin's Famous Whole Wheat Potato Rolls - One Roll=1 point
Just ditto what I said for their bread. YUM! And this is a great way to have your hamburgers or a sandwich or just a roll with dinner and not have to worry about too many points.
Boca Burgers - 1 burger = 1 point
They kind of have a funkyish after taste but you can't beat one point - eat it on one of the above mentioned rolls and you have a 2 point burger. Load it up with lettuce, tomato and all that jazz and you have a big low point burger. (although I'm just a ketchup girl myself)
Fruit Roll Ups - 1 point
When I want a candy/something sweet these are great.
Pringles Light Fat Free - depending on the kind 14 or 15 chips = 1 point
I actually feel like I'm allowed to eat a few. 14 chips is a good amount when paired with a sandwich and a piece of fruit for lunch. Or perfect for a snack when you just need something to munch on.
Turkey Bacon - One slice = 1 point
My husband actually prefers it to regular bacon. I think it's really good but real bacon still is better. However it's low point and when you find the right brand it's super yummy. (Hint - look for a piece that looks most like bacon - Oscar Mayers is a bit funky in my opinion)
Thomas' 100 Calorie English Muffins - 1 muffin = 1 point
Great for breakfast - or make a pizza on one for a quick snack or lunch. Yummy! You can't tell the difference between that and a regular one.
Total Raisin Bran - 1 cup = 2 points
I love that it's a whole cup and not 3/4 of a cup like most cereals are.
Fudgsicle Low Fat 60 calories Popsicles - 1 point!
I love my ice cream in the evening. These are rich and chocolaty so it's the perfect night time indulgence without needing to save too many points.
So there's a few. Hope that they work as well for you as they do for me! :)
