Wordful Wednesday - Some crazy

This morning a friend came over with her three littles - 4 year old, 3 year old, and 2 year old - for craft time.  It was lots of fun, but it was a little crazy.  Painting body parts with 5 all 4 and under makes for a little craziness.  We did one kiddo at a time and one body part at a time.  E-Man we had to do one hand at a time even.  It will make for a cute Christmas decoration though and definitely worth the momentary craziness.  Now I just hope that fabric paint comes out of my jeans.  I only have two that really fit me comfortably.  It would be sad for one to have brown paint on it.

I'm ready to get this Thanksgiving thing on and then break out the Christmas decorations.  I'm starting to feel it.  I think it could have something to do with the fact that I decided to pledge handmade for Christmas this year.  I'm really getting sick of the commercialism that is Christmas.  I'm taking it back as much as I possibly can.  There will be a few things that I will actually visit the store for, but few.  And I'm excited about it, even if I do feel slightly insane for truly deciding this just one month short of the big day.

Oh and then just the other day I threw out the idea of having a holiday party out to my husband and he decided that it was a good idea.  So tonight I worked up this...

I turned it into a pdf and e-mailed (greener!) it to a few of our close friends.  I'm a glutton.  That's all I can say.  I'm making Thanksgiving, a holiday party, and putting together a handmade Christmas.  Yeah I'm a nut.

Well...yeah...you're nuts. But it wouldn't be the holidays without the assorted fruits and nuts.

Oh, and I like the handprints on the towel -- very cool. We have a white Christmas shelf that we keep all of the Christmas books, cd's and movies on, and since 2001 (when my oldest two were 4 and 2 years old) we have been putting their hand prints on the shelf somewhere and dating it. Of course since 2003 we've had three kids, and their hands are getting bigger, so the space is filing up more rapidly. But, it's fun to look back at how little they were back then.

Fun. Fun. Fun. Except the cleaning part (from the craft and for having guests over)

I hear ya on the jean thing. I only have one pair I really like to wear. I would be SO bummed if anything happened to them.

I don't think I could do an entirely handmade Christmas. What are you making for your kids? Or are you buying handmade?

We've always done our fair share of homemade gifts, but this year the bulk of our gifts will be homemade.

I asked PapaBear if we could get a tree this weekend and he laughed at me. Growing up, his family didn't get a tree until the week before Christmas. Can you imagine? I prefer snow on the ground first so I guess the timing is out of our hands.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Yup - a certified nut-case! Seriously. Wow. You're either a nut or you just have way too much energy. Could you send some my way??

Have a great Tgiving!

definitely a great memory! I'm trying to do more homemade gifts this year. Can't go all homemade since grandma has requested a digital brag book.

Have a great Wednesday!

i LOVE the craft idea... very cute. i am crossing my fingers about the jeans. i can relate... i got hair dye on one of my favorite white t-shirts. i am such a slob, though, i still wear it.

i'm thinking about a homemade christmas, too. i'm not sure i can swing it, but it would certainly improve my view of the holidays.

What a CUTE idea!! Very fun.

Good luck with the pants... That would be sad. I don't own many pairs of pants either, and I would be rather devastated to lose a pair to paint.

the handmade gifts idea worked great for me this year. though i had a bit of a jumpstart, eek, there is still so much undone or halfdone, luckily etsy filled in for the ones i couldn't make.

my pile of gifts is sooo much smaller this year, but i never have felt better about the things i am giving.

i did cheat em's is getting a digital camera. but still a very creative gift.

good luck!
