Tofu Tuesday #13

Tofu Tuesdays
Brought to you by...
Kaci@Ellyphant & Kelli@Gohn Crazy

Tofu Tuesday is the place to share all of your vegetarian secrets. If you have a great recipe to share, a product to rave or rant about, or anything that has made being a vegetarian easier for you please share it. (And vegans, please jump in too!!) Feel free to grab the little button over there to the right. After you post come back here and link up in the comments (Mr. Linky is currently down). Make sure to link to your Tofu Tuesday post and not to your main blog address. I'm looking forward to reading all your posts!

OK so I've slacked big time this week. It wasn't until around 5pm today that it really registered that today was Tuesday. Shame shame. And I've also decided that I shouldn't promise because breaking promises sucks. Even if it's "just a blog", but there's still some guilt there.

I don't have a recipe, but I have a picture. That counts for something, right?!

Tonight I was frustrated. I mean considering eating meat, frustrated. Everywhere the family wanted to eat I was unsure of because I was worried about my options. Finally I said screw it I'll figure it out. I asked K-Girl where she'd like to eat and she said Chili's. I was a bit nervous, but again decided it would be ok. The Husband shared that he thought I was going to order meat (after the fact) because I was so frustrated.

So I look over the menu and I was disappointed. Not even a fajita had a vegetarian option on the menu. When the waiter came back I asked him if it were possible to get the classic fajita with beans in place of meat as I am a vegetarian. He said that actually he believed that there was a vegetarian fajita and in fact maybe even a vegetarian menu. He went to look. When he came back he did not have a menu, but he did say that they had the vegetarian fajita. I was so excited. I ordered that. I didn't care about the details.

When it came out it took up the entire table. I had a slight panic attack because it was covered in mushrooms (I'm not a mushroom fan, I mean I picked the tiny pieces off of pizza or out of spaghetti sauce before) and it had broccoli - still not a fan, but big enough that I could eat around it. I'm working on that. Baby steps. But seriously it looked so delicious that it didn't phase me that these foods that I "didn't like" were all over it.

It didn't occur to me to take a picture until I was almost completely done, but I did take a picture...

Doesn't that look amazing?! Ok so the picture doesn't do it justice really. It probably would have worked better had I remembered at the beginning of the meal and not half a fajita away from the end. But you want to know the best part? Well I had enough extra filling to bring home and make at least 5 more fajitas. YUM! So if you get to Chili's this is a DELICIOUS vegetarian alternative that isn't listed on the menu, but worth asking about.

that looks really yummy, but i cannot believe they don't have a vegetarian option on the menu.

i could not imagine going veggie without mushrooms, i put them in everything.

my old standby when there was no veg option, was can i have a reuben without the meat.

they always look at me like i'm crazy but it always worked!

Hi Kelli, it's Sarah J from YNMM...cool to find your blog! It looks really great! As did those veggie fajitas; I may have to ask for them next time I'm at Chili's!

I'm glad you asked! Usually I don't want to "be an imposition," so I end up with a couple starters or just order a salad with no meat. I'll have to be braver like you!

I always order the black bean burger at Chili's. Its meat-free, and its on the part of the menu with the healthy options. Chili's is actually one of the places that non-veg DH and I always enjoy.
