I'm sensing a theme

The family whose biggest puke issues have been their cat who likes to sneak dairy and then remembers it does not tolerate dairy has had it coming to them.

Yep see another post about puke.  Aren't you happy?

This morning K-Girl threw up twice - one after a bite of cereal, second after some muffin tops. Both times she seemed absolutely herself otherwise so we figured sour stomach or something.  We went on with our day.

After nap time we decided to head down and check out a local consignment store that we had heard a lot of good things about.  Well we did find a few things for K-Girl, but as we were browsing E-Man began to cough...and cough...and cough.  I got worried knowing his gag reflex.  And then it happened...

You know that moment that you wish you could just hide.

The kid threw up all over himself and the floor.  Thank GOODNESS that it was a hardwood floor and they gave me paper towels and cleaner.

We then headed over to the boys section and were lucky enough to find a really nice Gap spring jacket (for $5.99!).  Very nice since he was without coat due to before-mentioned incident.

Later we headed to Target and then to Denny's for dinner.  While waiting for our dinner E-Man started coughing again and sure enough he gagged himself.  At that point it was only a tiny bit and it was plain to see that he knew what he was doing and initiating it a bit himself.  But then he got us good on the way home.

FIVE puke incidents today.  FIVE.  Isn't that too many?  Isn't there a rule?  For two kids that really are acting completely normal and healthy to have five pukes between them.  I'm done with bodily fluids for today.

Sleepy boy

E-Man hasn't been sleeping much lately.  His normal naps of 2ish hours are down to an hour if I'm lucky.  He had been sleeping till 7:30 - 8:00 and lately it's 6:00 - 6:30.  This morning I was able to bring him into my bed at 6 and get him to go back to sleep until 10 of 8, but his nap was ridiculously short.

I tried doing Wii Fit with the kids thinking it would be fun to get up and get moving - K-Girl LOVES Wii Fit.  After getting terrible scores due to my little man crying and hanging on my legs I gave up on that.  The only thing he would have was cuddling on the couch watching TV.

Uh oh.

K-Girl started out her sickness with zero energy.  She offered to run up and get him his blanket and that sealed the deal.  He was nodding, but the blanket knocked him out.

Poor thing.  Other than a rotten attitude he doesn't seem to be sick.  He was a little warm last night when he woke at 9:00 and this afternoon after nap, but otherwise fine.  I guess time will tell.  Hope we won't have another casualty of this bug.

(although I must admit the cuddles are nice)

Updating:  Still in and out of sleep, temp 102.7.  Joy.

and *poof* it's Kindergarten

I've been rather lazy about Kindergarten research.  Last year I remember preschool posting notes on the doors of the 4 year old classes when each of the schools in the area started kindergarten registration so this year I figured the same would happen.  When I took K-Girl to the dentist last month the hygienist asked if she had any KG forms to fill out and that her niece had already enrolled.  Well it's wasn't the same school so I just figured not yet.  Well then another mom posted on facebook about going in for registration with her son who is in K-Girl's preschool class (different district though).  That is what made me think perhaps I need to do my own detective work.  The website had nothing so I had to call.  Boooo.  I hate calling about anything when there is any other way around it, but ask The Husband - I'm getting MUCH better about it.

I called today.

I missed the first day of interviews.  Oops.  Luckily they had appointments available the second day so I didn't completely feel like slacker mom.  I have an appointment.  Tuesday March 31st.

Also according to everything I found online they only had half-day KG.  I've been complaining about this for ages.  Half day kindergarten is 9:00 - 11:50 (for morning session).  I gain 20 minutes on preschool and other than that increase my running by 5 days a week rather than 3.  It just seemed to be a big pain in the butt.  So when she asked me if I wanted information relevant to half or full day I was pleasantly surprised.  K-Girl is more than ready for full day.  She loves school.  She fights at home.  She's ALWAYS "bored" (yes, I am aware that is every kid).  But I think for as much as they are doing and everything that full day just makes sense.

Now that I got what I wanted (I guess unless they tell me it's full or something like that) it makes me a bit sad.  Holy cow when did my baby get big enough to be leaving me for a whole day at school.  I'm not one of those emotional moms.  I really didn't think I'd cry the first day of preschool, her first year not this year ;), but I did a little.  And something is telling me that kindergarten is going to hit me hard.

It doesn't help that when I went to kindergarten my class was 16 kids and that was it - I mean for the whole school's KG.  I was with the same 16 (give or take new kids and ones that moved) from KG to 3rd (would have been 4th but I moved).  K-Girl's school's kindergarten class had a count of 151 kids according to their website which is probably slightly outdated.  That was as many kids as I had in my entire graduating class.  Makes this country bumpkin mom feel some culture shock and nerves about sending her baby off to such a large school and this is only elementary!

Now if I can just get K-Girl pumped about it.  She loves preschool, but when talk comes about leaving preschool and going to KG she wants nothing of it.  I just remind myself that she was adamant up until the first day that she didn't want to go to preschool this year if she didn't have her 3's teacher.  By pickup that first day she was loving her new teachers and I know the same will go for KG.

Bugs

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

K-Girl caught one.  It's her first ever stomach bug.  At 4 1/2 years I should be extremely grateful that this is her first, but it sucks too much to be grateful.  She's learning fast that puking is one of the least desirable things that ever happens to the human body.  She's so scared to puke that she has befriended the bucket and will not put it down.  She's puked on her beloved "Honey" (Siamese Cat Webkinz) which was traumatic.  She's also puked on herself, on me, on two blankets, the floor, and so on and so on.  So this morning Mr. Bucket is her best friend.

Photo 24

I feel so bad for her.  She's really got it bad.  On top of the puking she has a high fever.  Last night it got to 103.6 using our ear thermometer.  We decided to call the doctor to see if she needed to be seen because of the fever and they said that because it's the ear that you add one degree so her temp was actually 104.6 and so yes she should come in.  I took her in at 7:15 last night just to find that she has a virus that she just needs to ride out.  Poor thing.  Today her temp was 103.3 (104.3).  I wish it would just break.  I know that when that happens she will feel so much better.

She is picking at food so that's a good sign.  She's ate about a quarter piece of toast for both breakfast and lunch along with an ice pop and some 7 Up.  She's keeping it down but refused to put that bucket down even during lunch.

But also note that this little lady is the most whiny little thing when she's sick and oh.my.gosh does she tattle.  E-Man can't do ANYTHING without her tattling (in the extremely whiney little voice) on him.  I can't leave her side for risk of tears.  So here I sit cuddling with her while her brother naps and I long for sleep as well.  She pretty much left The Husband and I get no sleep until about 3 am.  E-Man was up at 7 and of course she slept till 8:15.  I'm beat.  I'm praying no one else catches it though.  Spring anyone?!

And when I'm not crafting

I'm trying desperately to get out from under this mess that resulted from lack of motivation and then being sick.  I spent Monday evening folding laundry, an hour and 20 minutes to be exact.  What does that much laundry look like?  Have a look see.  Keep in mind this is an 8 person square table, the dry rack along the wall is stacked, and some hanging items on my curtain rod.  Good stuff.

laundry

And I have been doing it heavily ever since.  There is a light at the end of the tunnel though.  I have empty baskets and have gotten the actual clothing laundry caught up.  Now I need to get the miscellaneous stuff all caught up on and not let that ever happen again.  So far so good.  I've got a new action plan in place and this house is looking pretty darn good thanks to my friend Amy

We also had a BIG problem with K-Girl keeping her room clean - well actually having visible floor space at all.  So The Husband had this idea to get her cleaning and keeping it clean.  I cut out 5 green squares and 5 red squares and put them in a cup in her room.  At the end of quiet time when she comes out she gives me a card - green if it's clean and red if it's messy.  If it's green she puts her square into my jar.  If it's red I take a green card out of my jar.  Once she gets all 5 green cards in my jar she earns a special prize.  This time it's a small notebook with a puppy on the cover and a pack of markers.  It cost about $3.00.  And honestly $3.00 is worth my sanity of yelling over cleaning up her room.  After she earns this prize I'm going to replace it with something smaller, $1 or $2 and wrap it to keep the excitement factor up.  We'll see.  After three days going she's still really excited about earning the notebook and markers.

How about I update this thing?

To those of you that like reading new posts, this one's for you.  ;)

So it's been about two weeks since we brought home our new puppy.  Don't let that post down below fool you.  The dog's a little sh*t.  ;)  She's a lover though and that's her saving grace.  She snuggles most of the day with me.  However, housebreaking is slow going.  We have good days and not so good days.  Thankfully our downstairs is no longer carpet which makes cleanup MUCH easier.  She and Molly are still getting along quite well though.  Every now and then Molly has to put Gabby in her place, but they are mostly good together.  She's an escape artist too.  I have to add a clamp to her crate when I put her in otherwise she gets the door open.  When she did this the first time I came home to such a mess which resulted in my scrubbing of the carpet.  I didn't give her a chance to have a repeat performance.  But like I said she's super cute and a little lover so it evens itself out.

I've also been crafting a lot which has been a lot of fun.  A friend showed off her calorimetry that she had knitted.  I loved it so immediately went in search of a crochet version which I found here.  I made the first one by this pattern...

And then I made three more modifying the pattern to fit my own small head and lack of hair.  The second one that I made is the green one which I am wearing in the picture above with Gabby.  That one still turned out a bit larger than I hoped so I made two more and they turned out almost perfect.  I don't have pictures of them at this moment.  They look the same although shorter and thinner. The third I did in variegated blues and the last one I've done was a yarn that was yellow, orange, and pink.  I love them though.  They are perfect for an easy fix when I don't want to fuss with my hair much.  And I love the way they look.

I've also been making a few other things but I need to wait just a little longer before I can share one of those with you.  The other thing is a sweater for Gabby.  This is the first ever project I have made without a pattern and I couldn't be happier with it.  I picked out the yarn to match her collar and leash, because you know everything must coordinate.  ;)  It took me two sessions to finish it.  Gabby isn't thrilled, but deals.  The only issue I had was that the little collar around it kept standing up so I tacked it down three places and that problem has been solved.

And the last bit of crafty fun that I can share with you at this time is another handmade bag that I made for our playgroup's March of Dimes - March for Babies raffle.

and all folded and ready to go...

So I guess in my lack of blogging there has been a lot of crafting going on.  ;)  And otherwise the family, the new puppy, and my new natural mommies playgroup has been keeping me pretty busy.  I miss you all and I miss my blog, but I think I need to find a nice happy medium from visiting every single blog I enjoy, reading ever single new blog post, and participating (and visiting all the participants) of all the fun daily blog activities to visiting and doing absolutely none of them.  I'll try.  :)   And in the meantime I thank those of you still hanging around.  *mwah*

Yo Gabby Gabby

Yesterday was the big day.  We went and picked up our new puppy, Gabby.

To be honest, we've been nervous about how this was going to go - especially the meeting of Molly and Gabby and there was nothing to worry about after all.  Molly doesn't really give a hoot about her.  We walked her right in, Molly did some sniffing, and after making sure there were no signs of aggression we put Gabby down.  She assumed submissive position and everything was fine.  Sniffing was done and Molly went on her way.

We set up Gabby's crate with her bed and her blanket that we were given that had her family's scent on.  She was happy.  She hasn't left my side much though.  She's definitely a lover and beyond that I do think she's a bit homesick and nervous.  That will come as she hasn't even been here 24 hours.

Last night she made herself at home and helped The Husband and Molly load the dishwasher.  ;)

Our nightly couch time was exactly as I had anticipated.  The Husband, then Molly between he and I, with Gabby on the other side.  Everyone nice and comfy.  :)

At bedtime we figured that we would just take her to bed since that's honestly where she's going to end up anyway.  I don't think it would be fair that Molly sleeps in bed and Gabby couldn't.  And since those two are getting along I didn't see a reason why not.  When I put her into bed she burrowed under the covers and got tight up next to be and went to sleep.  She slept the whole night and only moved a couple times.  She woke me a little after 7 this morning as she was down around my feet and I didn't want her falling off the bed.  I figured I should get her out to pee and so we got up.  Not too shabby.

There have not been any accidents in the house, although I'm expecting them to happen.  Right now she's sleeping right next to me as close as she can possibly get.  I believe it's her nap time right now too.  She's so sweet.  This might just be the baby "fix" I was needing as she's quite attached to me already and I enjoy the "baby" cuddles too.   It's even better because this baby lets me sleep at night.  ;)

E-Man isn't sure he likes all Momma's attention on the puppy and had a little meltdown last night about it.  But K-Girl is just loving her up.  She asks if she can hold her, wants to get her treats, play with her, and asks us how she should pick her up properly so she can take her over to get a drink and whatnot.

Yep.  I think this is going to work out nicely.
